relief

The blazing sun
has wearied us all –
keeping us
shuttered, in retreat,
grumbling. For two days

you tease, forming
billowing structures
made for show, your
rumbles
unreliable. When

the rain finally comes, it is
on tiptoe – with no
claps or flashing lights, just
a gentle hush, like parting

the curtain of your
lover’s hair, the ground
opening up
to receive your gift.
