fleeting

Looking into the golds
and watching the fading
greens of recent days, I feel the

approach of an absence, the wayward
turn toward increasing darkness. Today
is bereft of sunlight and the winds

are quickening, like the flight of
a hawk nearing its prey. Of course,
for the hawk, this is good, as his

body is made for this plunging flight,
for this bond with gravity…and so, give me
hawk eyes to see beyond

this horizon, and courage to dive
for the gifts that are always
there, just waiting.
